Georgie
Georgie
Koala Name: Brandy Hill Georgie
Rescued: February 2023
Released: March 2023
Reason Georgie came into care: Georgie was found by a member of the public late one night in the middle of the road. When a kind member of the public stopped to assist him, he appeared to be unable to open his eyes.
Realising that this was not normal, the member of the public rang the rescue line and spoke to the rescue phone operator who quickly thought Georgie might be suffering from a mild case of eye chlamydia. The phone operator dispatched one of our experienced rescuers who was also able to triage him late that night. The rescuer made Georgie comfortable for the night util the veterinary team was able to give him a full veterinary health check. Georgie was also a little young to be on his own.
Treatment provided: After the initial veterinary health check and confirmation that Georgie was indeed suffering from bilateral eye chlamydia, he was treated with antibiotics until all cleared. Georgie was then put into one of the Hospital’s pre-release enclosures where he was able to build up the strength needed as a young male koala to be able to find and defend his territory in the wild. Once given the all-clear, he was released in a safe area away from roads.
Estimated cost of treatment while in care: $2,000
