Paul
Paul
Koala Name: Swan Bay Paul
Rescued: August 2022
Released: January 2023
Reason Paul came into care: Paul came to Port Stephens Koala Hospital after a member of the public noticed he was not able to walk correctly on the side of the road.
Treatment provided: Paul was given a full health check consisting of multiple radiographs, ultrasound and blood tests. The tests confirmed that he had a fractured leg, and he underwent surgery to repair his leg. Paul then underwent 6 weeks of intensive care, rechecking and further radiographs by the team at the Hospital. Once the fracture healed there was still another few weeks building the strength back in his leg to ensure that he could not only climb a tree, but as a male, he also would be able to use the leg well enough to fight other males and defend his territory. Once given the all-clear by the veterinary team, and experienced koala wildlife rehabilitators, he was released at a property a safe distance away from the road.
Estimated cost of treatment while in care; Over $5,000
