From $10 to $1000 – you can make a difference

Caring for endangered koalas and other native animals costs significant time and money – so we need your support.

Did you know it costs more than $16,000 to fully rehabilitate and release a single koala? This includes rescue operations, medical treatment, care, food and habitat preservation.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on the goodwill of generous donors like you to help us fund our important care and wildlife conservation work – and to help ensure we have a safe, healthy koala population in Port Stephens and our wider region for generations to come.

We hold Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. This means any donation you make of $2 or over is tax-deductible. We’ll send you a receipt for your records directly to your inbox, including your line items and our ABN.

A $50 donation can help feed and care for a koala for a day. But $50 a month provides consistent support for their recovery, from treatment through to rehabilitation and release.

One-off donations

Every dollar makes a difference, whether it’s $10 or $100. A one-off donation goes directly towards the rescue, care and rehabilitation of koalas and other native wildlife in our region.

Recurring donations

A monthly donation means we can plan ahead – keeping our hospital stocked, our team supported and more native animals on the road to recovery. It’s one of the most powerful ways to help.

Where does my donation go?

Success Story

Reggie’s journey back to the bush

When Reggie arrived at Port Stephens Koala Hospital in December 2025, he was a young sub-adult male who had likely only recently left his mother to find a territory of his own. He was very unwell, with discharge from both his eyes and nose. A CT scan revealed pneumonia, and testing confirmed he was also positive for chlamydia.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) – wildlife donations

Yes. As a registered charity, we hold Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. In Australia, this means koalas and wildlife donations of $2 or more are fully tax-deductible. Tax receipts are sent to you automatically and include your line items and our ABN.

Your wildlife donation goes directly to the rescue, veterinary care, food, rehabilitation and release of koalas and other native wildlife (lizards, wombats, possums, birds, gliders) at our hospital. Keeping them wild and returning them back to the bush is always our goal.

Both. Your donations support immediate care for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife in our hospital and long-term outcomes through rehabilitation, release programs and wildlife health monitoring and research.

In most cases, your wildlife donations go to where they’re needed most, helping us respond quickly to injured koalas and native wildlife and support day-to-day hospital operations and care.

As a charitable organisation, every koala we treat contributes to our ongoing care records, recovery outcomes and Australian wildlife health knowledge – helping improve future treatment and survival rates. See our impact.
